New "Costume Shop" in Town! by / Theatre Bay Area Staff

Published 2011-12-08

Yesterday American Conservatory Theater unveiled a new performance space in the heart of the Mid-Market neighborhood. At 4:30 p.m., ACT’s family of artists and supporters, representatives from numerous Bay Area arts organizations, and newly-elected Mayor Ed Lee gathered to celebrate the opening of “The Costume Shop.” This 49-seat black box theatre space at 7th and Market includes a lobby space, backstage area and dressing rooms, and is located only steps from the Civic Center BART and MUNI stations. The new storefront venue, situated below the theatre company’s venerable (actual) costume shop, was made possible by a grant from The James Irvine Foundation. ACT anticipates using the space to partner with local artists and performing arts companies, facilitating the creation of new work; the venue will also be available to rent. Visit act-sf.org/costumeshop.
